Brief Answer:
a diuretic may help

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if your doctor advised you to take a diuretic then I couldn't argue with that! Your doctor knows your medical history and current condition and is the most appropriate person to take such decisions. Diurex is an OTC product that may help. I wouldn't have recommended this though to my patients, as the experience doctors have with prescribed drugs like lasix is much broader.

So if the swelling is caused by water retention due to some degree of heart failure then a diuretic will help. Safety cannot be predicted in an individual basis though. Diuretics are generally well tolerated and safe but certain patients may experience side effects, even serious ones.

If the cause of swelling is not determined yet then investigation is required before the best treatment option is selected.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
