That question was very basic, Sorry. Our daughter will be 25 in April. She has two little girls 3 & 5. She shares custody with the girls' father, and lives with her brother (our son). She has been having some serious mood issues for awhile now and finally went to talk to someone. A therapist at a local Tribal Health Clinic near her, She has seen this counselor twice now and yesterday she came to my mothers' home after her appointment and showed us her medications.
We were a little concerned because so many so quickly. I was just trying to learn about these medications, because she also smokes pot and occasionally has a drink. I was a victim of a very violent outrage of hers not to long ago, and her baby girls were almost caught in her quick mood change.
The medications are:
*Gabapentin* (I took this for my diabetic neuropathy) This for her nerve pain I would think, as she has never had a seizure.
*Prozac* This makes me a little concerned, My sister took this for a year or so, continued to drink and tore her house apart. Her moods are out of control, she will throw a chair in a restaurant, Slap someone walking by. Never know what's coming next. My best friend took this as well and didn't keep on schedule well. Now she self medicates with crystal meth or one of those and I have lost her.
*The other forgot the name but my husband said it is used for treating OCD. We have never noticed OCD symptoms but of course that doesn't mean that they aren't there.
I guess after ALL OF THIS, my question is . . . Is it common to start more then one med at a time so quickly? And how do you know which med is working and which isn't if you start all at once? I thought Neurontin was not OK to take with heart issues (Gabapentin)? And are these meds all OK to take while still smoking pot?

Brief Answer:
They are too many for a start.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this detailed information.

Clearly, your daughter has psychiatric disorders. the exact diagnosis would be necessary to tel what the exact treatment would have been. That not withstanding, starting with several medications at once is not the best way to go. I would have preferred that the doctor starts with a single drug and evaluate before adding new ones. This would be a good question to ask her doctor directly to understand the reasons for this big leap.

These as all psychotropic drugs. They have different actions an definitely has depression as one of the reasons for prescription. medications for prescriptions can be used for OCD and therefore we can not tell what the exact reason of prescription is by looking at the medications alone.

Smoking pot simply tells us she has more issues to deal with but pot in no way makes these medications any more concerning than they should be. She really needs intensive rehabilitation to get over her issues. I hope her doctor does just this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. I wish your daughter well!
