Can Geodon Be Abruptly Discontinued?
Question: I have been on Geodon for 6 weeks. My psychiatrist switched me to Seroquel yesterday. Will I have withdrawls from the Geodon?
Brief Answer:
You will not have any serious withdrawal.
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related doubts
Geodon is Ziprasidone and Seroquel is Quetiapine. Both are second generation antipsychotics and mood stabiliser drugs. Geodon is a relatively newer drug and usually doesn't cause withdrawal.
Mild symptoms like insomnia, slight restlessness, dizziness can be seen but Seroquel will take care of all these symptoms. So you will not have withdrawals.
Thanks. Take care

Ok, thank you for that answer. So I started Seroquel on October 14th. I take 75mg in the morning and 150 mg at night. It makes me depressed. Do I need to be weaned off the Seroquel or can I just stop taking it? If I stop taking it, will there be withdrawals?
Brief Answer:
Stopping the drug abruptly can cause insomnia
Detailed Answer:
Hello again
Seroquel helps in sleep so stopping the drug abruptly might cause insomnia and restlessness. You can skip morning dose from day one. Take 150 in evening for a week then reduce the dose to 75 for next week, then stop the drug completely.
Thanks, take care
