Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: My friend a girl around 26 years of age was raped 2 weeks back..The rape was done by her brother... who is currently living outside ..the possibility of rape is that he has bitten at places and there was blood coming from her skin ... She is not ready to tell to the family as its been done by some one close and her father health is also a question .. She was worried that she may be infected with HIV because of that .. Is there any place to get PCR test done here in XXXXXXX and will there be risk assosiated with HIv regarding that rape ?

He did not have intercourse with her . so no semen involved here... Please tell what to do as she is extremely worried

Brief Answer:
PEP should be taken if her brother is likely to be positive...explained.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
As there has been no intercourse or penetration, rape cannot be proved. But there has been an assault on her, so she should be reporting the matter to the police ideally.
As far as transmission is concerned if there has been blood to blood contact and the brother of hers is a known HIV then transmission is a possibility for sure. If the point of contact is bite marks and bleeding skin f hers and if he had oral lesions then he may transmit it to her.
If she suspects him to be HIV positive, then she should be placed on post exposure prophylaxis for the HIV. then she can get a DNA PCR test done after 3 weeks to rule it out completely.
