Can HIV Be Contracted Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Hi,
I'm 30 Yrs old male. Yesterday I had sex with a lady whose HIV status is unknown (even though she demands she doesn't have it). I used 3 condoms together while doing the intercourse. But before that I had oral sex and swallowed some of her body fluid. I'm very worried and went to the hospital emergency to start PEP. But doctor refused to prescribe that and mentioned that there is very less chance of any infection and PEP can damage my Kidney, Liver, Eyes etc. He asked me to test HIV after one month. Please confirm if his suggestion is correct or I should consult other doctor. Also I'm feeling tiredness, not sure if that is fr any other reason. Please help.

Brief Answer:
The risk is very small and negligible!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this experience and all the inconveniences this has caused you. Swallowing who viral particles by the mouth is not enough to transmit HIV. That is why mothers still breastfeed their babies and yet the children do not get HIV. The risk is minimal and his suggestion is reasonable. There is no need to get drugs in this case if that is all that transpired.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Should I see any symptoms now if infection has entered to my body?

Brief Answer:
NO!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is too early and no symptom can be related or attributed to HIV from this encounter. Don't be too concerned and be sick from your thoughts rather from any illness.

I wish you well.
