Can HIV Be Contracted Through Oral Sex?
Question: Dr.
I had protected sex with a CSW while traveling for work. Condom stayed in tact the whole time during anal sex. CSW provided oral without a condom. I am worried because I am experiencing some symptoms such as dry cough, achy joints, and have had some mild night sweats. I have also been very gassy, no diarea but some looser than normal stool. I am 9 weeks out from my encounter and have had anxiety over having the encounter. What really worries me is my wife has just in the last two weeks been presenting with anxiety, insomnia and nasea, she was diagnosed with post partum depression as we have a 13 week old, but I'm worried these are an onset of a possible hiv exposure...she can't eat or sleep and was fine up until last week..could she be in the Acute phase. Will an oral test be accurate at 9 weeks, I want to take an in home test tomorrow

Brief Answer:
I would ask for a screening test
Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist and venereologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.
Oral sex has a very low risk for transmission for hiv. Nevertheless since its already been 9 weeks since the sexual encounter you can straight away go for a 4th generation Hiv screening test. This would be conclusive and dispel all your doubts.
