Can HIV Be Contracted Through Protected Anal Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Question: Hello. I have girl friend and we had anal sex with condom but when i was about to remove the condom after sex it i saw a tear on( kind of on the trunk of the penis) it but i remove it so quickly and put water to check, the was tip was not shred only the middle/upper part of the condom, the tip was not exposed but is it possible that head came out from that shred part during inter course and am I risk to get infected. The partner HIV status is unknown.

I condom was still intact for sure- can the head comes out from the shred part( middle of the condom) during sex? or condom ring will protect the condom not to move? I didnt have much light in the bathroom but condom was intact but not sure if the head came out or not. When i put water in the condom there was no leak at the tip for sure.
I had no fever, had pain in the back for the throat/ears and running nose in the 2nd week after exposure , my doctor think its a hay fever. I have now migratory 'come and goes' joint/muscle in the forth week- can this be ARS symptoms?

Brief Answer:
If penis tip was not exposed then spread of HIV most unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. If your penis head is not exposed then spread f HIV is most unlikely. But if there is some shredding then is some possibility of exposing head during two and fro motion while having sexual activity. If the part just above head of penis is very firmly attached then you are most likely safe.
By the symptoms you are are having we can't say whether it is from ARS or not. The symptoms can be just from usual upper respiratory infection and associated joint pain. A streptococcal throat infection can give such symptoms.
You can ask the girl to do HIV duo test to find out her status of HIV. You can also do HIV duo test after 28 days of exposure. Antigen or PCR test can be done 2 week after exposure also. This will help to clear your HIV status.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Thanks Doctor. The ring of the condom was intact and shred was at the middle but the tip area and little above had no tear. are you saying that head can come out from the shred part during activity? i have been told that ring is solid and condom will not move- please clarify a bit. The girl said she is 100% sure that she had no issue so she is not too keen to do the test. I will mine soon. what is my risk factor?
Thanks

last thing: because the condom was attached till the end some possibility of exposure is enough to cause the infection? i heard HIV is very hard to transfer?

Brief Answer:
If ring was intact then it is ok.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

If ring was intact and head part was not tore then chance of exposure of head is not likely. In that case you are most likely safe also.
Only if there is enough contact with mucous membrane that is head part of penis , there is risk. Other wise there is no risk. Yes HIV is very hard to transfer by a small exposure.

Any way it is better to run the HIV Duo test for yourself for assurance.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
