Can HIV Be Contracted Through Skin-to-skin Contact?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Apr 2016
Question: Received a lap dance from a stripper. She rubbed my face between her breasts and I touched her breasts (no nipple touching). The dance lasted for 10 minutes. No other sexual activities. I was fully dressed and she had her bra and panty on. Question - I shaved my face the day before this encounter and might have minor cuts. Will this skin-to-skin encounter put me in danger of HIV infection?

Brief Answer:
Your HIV risk is almost 'nil'. Not to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
HIV is viable only in body fluids and will not be present over skin or surface of body. It can not survive outside the body fluids not more than few seconds.
HIV can not spread through body to body contact. (If it is so, you can imagine the situation where there is crowding during any festivals in urban area). In every house of a HIV positive individuals, in HIV Children caring homes and in hospitals and clinic handling HIV individuals knowing and unknowing their status, people are coming in contact with similar situations and the care providers are remain HIV free for years together. That too, in your case, you were in your dress and that dancer was wearing her panties and bra. Even if you had your shaving earlier and had any cuts also, your HIV risk is negligible or almost 'nil'. So you need not worry at all.

Thank you. Will you consider this encounter as casual / social contact that presents no risk to contracting HIV? And I should move on with my life without worrying about passing on HIV to my wife and kid?

You can resume normal activities with your wife

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back
I don't consider this contact as a risky one. It is just a casual meet. That is all. You can resume your normal activities with your wife as long as your statement is absolute.

For peace of mind, I did HIV RNA test 20 days after the event and it came back negative. Given the encounter described above, would you consider me as HIV free and I should stop worrying about it?
