Brief Answer:
Yes. Risk is much lower than intercourse which itself is about 20%.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Unfortunately, the answer is yes for the conditions that you describe.

2. However, the risk of exposure with a confirmed HIV positive partner is not 100%.

3. Your risk is lower than that for intercourse, which is about 20%.

4. If possible get an HIV screening done at 3 monthly intervals and a PCR test if required.

5. Consider Post-Exposure Prophylaxis within 72 hours if your partner is suspected HIV positive.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Its really more of a mouth sore than a cut itself, there was no bleeding at all in my mouth after or during the oral sex.

The girl was a prostitute, so she obviously is person of risk, but i didnt ask her hiv status. so the status remain unknown.

Ive read that the lubrication secreted from the vagina comes from the Bartholins glands, and that those glands dont really have the virus, or very low of it, comparable to the saliva and tears, and, therefore, the risk is virtual nonexistent. Some people say that there is no documented case of hiv/oral sex transmission.

Anyway, i`m still worried of course, and i would like your opinion on this.

The fact occured about 30 hours ago, and, i`m worried if i should start PEP right away.

Thanks for the attention.

Brief Answer:
There is some risk, however small. Start PEP if worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. A sore or abrasion is enough for transmission.

2. This is an exposure, if the partner is indeed HIV positive. If she is not, the risk is non existent, but may hold true for other STDs.

3. All body secretions can contain the HIV virus, though as mentioned above, the risk is low here. However it is not nonexistent.

4. I would suggest PEP if you are worried. Also remember that PEP has side effects and that it does not guarantee non-transmission.

5. HIV is now a controllable disease, unlike earlier.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
