Can Meftal-P Syrup Be Given At An Interval Of 6 Hours For Fever?
Better to give it 8 hourly but can be given 6 hourly too
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for asking on this platform
Meftal P contains mefenemic acid which helps in bringing down the temperature.
The dose of mefenemic acid is 25-30 mg/kg/day and it is given at an interval of 8 hours. But it can also be given 6 hourly if it does not exceeds the 25 mg/kg/day.
I could not found the weight of your baby. The average weight of 2 years old baby is around 12-14 kg.
So the as per recommendation the total daily dose would be 350-400 mg/day.
5 ml of meftal-p contains 100 mg of mefenemic acid.So if given at an interval of 6 hour the total daily dose would be 400 mg.
I wont get overly worried as this dose does not exceeds the upper limit.
I personally recommend at an interval of 8 hours with upper limit of total daily dose of 25 mg/kg/day.
Most common cause of cough/cold with fever in this age is some viral infection.During initial 2-3 days fever may be of high grade.Augmentin is a good antibiotic and the dose is also appropriate.
If fever recurs even before 6 hours you may give paracetamol also.Paracetamol can be given safely at an interval of 4-6 hours with total daily dose of 60mg/kg/day.Also do tepid sponging as this helps in bringing down the temperature.

I hope this helps.
