My partner had viral meningitis 2 years ago and is now showing the same symptoms and feels as ill as last time. We have been to see a GP this morning who said there are no clinical signs of the virus but i am worried now as i am at work and have left him home alone to sleep off the severe headaches he is having. The GP recommended paracetamol. should i be worried?
For further clarification, I would like to know the patients symptoms, like onset, fever, headache, body ache, neck pain, vomiting etc. Since your GP has not detected any clinical signs of the virus, he has recommended paracetamol as the treatment.
But if the patient is experiencing fever, headache, vomiting, altered sensorium; then consult your GP again or consult an emergency physician or neurologist at the earliest to look for signs of meningitis and to consider a lumbar puncture if necessary. Early treatment of meningitis improves the outcome.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
