Can Megace Be Taken For Loss Of Appetite?
Question: My mother is in hospice care. She has lost 5 pounds this week---has little interest in eating. Her doctor wants to prescribe Megace to stimulate her appetite. She was in the hospital two weeks ago with pneumonia that wouldnt respond to antibiotics. She is 88. Does megace sound like a good idea?

Brief Answer:
Megace is good for appetite!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Menace is a good for appetite stimulation. There is no issue with it and I will recommend it to your mom. I know how difficult it might be seeing your mom in hospice. I do pray you get the strength and courage to help her as she faces these challenging days.
I hope this helps. I wish your mom all the best. Let me know if there is something more you would like us to talk about.

Thank you for your reply and prayers. I'm glad that we have some hope that she will start eating again. She has dementia as well so it's been hard to help her. She is in hospice care now, but we would love to see her go back to the skilled nursing unit instead of the hospice suite at her retirement facility. God bless you.
