Can Melatonin And Benadryl Be Taken Together For Treating Tinnitus And Insomnia?

Question: Hello. I have tinnitus and can't sleep. I tried melatonin 10mg it worked for 2 nights last night it did not. My dr. Said try Benadryl it did not work. Can you take melatonin with Benadry 25 mg.

There are no known interactions between melatonin and benadryl other than both causing sedation ,which is the effect that you want.

This means that they can be used safely together

Thank you. Dr XXXXXXX I also take atenolol and hydrochlorazide for blood pressure. And Prilosec for acid reflux. Ok to take melatonin and Benadryl with them. Thanks.

Sorry about the delayed reply

There are no significant interactions. Atenolol increases potassium levels and hydrochlorothiazide inncreases them, so between the two the levels may remain near normal.

There are different causes of tinnitus. Some may include: (1) associated with age related hearing loss
(2)part of a syndrome called menieres syndrome where there is also vertigo and hearing loss
(3)due to a mass
(4)side effect of medications

Treatment can be surgical eg removal of mass or placing a shunt or needing to section/cut certain nerves or injection of certain medications to the ear

Other treatment include electrical stimulation or therapy called biofeedback

Some persons have used the medication niacin with some effect
