Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Does Discontinuing Omeprazole Cause Acid Reflux And Pain Below Sternum ?
F44 128lbs no negative health history except acid reflux, pain below sternum which stopped after 2 wks of omeprazole with every meal two weeks ago, and episodes where an area the size of my fist located under my ribs, rt side medial feels like it expands then typically with 3 rhythmic pulses, contracts a little more with each pulse until it is normal again. It s frankly, freaking me out. What could cause this?
Being overweight puts pressure on the valve of stomach due to which stomach acids go up and cause burning and pain. Omeprazole acts by decreasing production of acids that's why acid reflux returns back after discontinuing Omeprazole. For the pulsing area, you need to go to your nearby general practitioner for proper physical examination.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
