Can Melatonin Be Replaced With Valerian For Treating A Sleeping Disorder?
Question: Im taking 4 mg/melatonin and 7.5mg/temazepam and 100 mg/gabapentin at bedtime. I sleep about 2 hrs then sleep on & off. Would valerian be better than melatonin
Brief Answer:
probably not...
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
sleeping difficulties are common in individuals older than 60 years. Melatonin may help with sleep induction and sleep duration but its effects are not impressive enough for any patient. Valerian may help some patients but its actions are not equally well documented. Therefore I doubt that valerian will help more than melatonin but if you're not happy with your current regimen, you can give it a try.
I hope you find my comments helpful!
