Can Metoprolol , Plavix And Centrum Silver Be Taken With Cranberry Juice?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: I take Metoprolol , Plavix , Centrum Silver, Vit.B100,Vit.D3-2000,Citracal with Vit.D3 and Mineral Bone Builders, Zyrtec and one tablet of Ferrous Gluconate. I take these pills together and with a mixture of Cranberry and Orange juice. Is the correct way? Also, I had been drinking wine with dinner and had experienced the same stomach problems as when I had been taking Fosamax. At that time I was diagnosed with Gastritis.
Over the last 2 years, I have had several bouts of Anemia to the extent that my blood count would be less
than 50% of normal. I then would take Ferrous Gluconate and it would return to normal. 6 months later it would be back down.
I now know that I must not drink alcohol. Should I also change juices and not take all of these pills at the
same time? I have been trying to find information as to what foods, spices, juices I should avoid.

Brief Answer:
Detail Follows.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
For the first part of your query I would like to tell you that you can take all these pills together with the juice. No issues.
Important concern is your Alcohol intake in presence of high BP and with history of Gastritis.
I would recommend you not to consume alcohol as it increases the gastritis. Also you are already on Anti platelet drugs like Plavix. They themself cause ulcers and gastritis.
Next important concern is your recurrent anemia. Taking an iron supplement is fine. It will cure your anemia transiently. But what is the reason behind that. It needs evaluation.
If you treat the cause you will get cured.
So I would advise you to get following tests:
1. Stool for occult blood.
2. Iron profile.
3. Complete hemogram with General blood picture
4. Upper GI Endoscopy.
As far as natural supplements are concerned you can take garlic, fenugreek seeds in diet.
You should avoid salt, potato, rice, fast food, oil and cheese.
Try to get sugar free (No added sugar) juices.
Also I would advise you to get you lipid profile done.
If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
