Question: Doctor my question is this: I just took my Oxycodone 40mgs an hour ago and I need to take my Chlorpeniramine Maleate for my nose. Is it safe to take it now or should I wait for a little while longer? I am only taking 1/4 of a pill because it knocks me on my butt makes me feel weird, and I am very concerned about mixing medications . I get severe panic attacks and I am very worried about medications triggering a panic attack and making one happen. I heard that Chlorpheniramine Maleate helps to reduce or even stop panic attacks.

Brief Answer:
No significant interactions are observed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

I can understand your concern and I am very sorry for your problem.

I would like to inform you that you can take these two medicines together. There is no significant, harmful interaction between these two observed.
Even there are few cough preparations that contains combination of these classes.
So no need to worry about that.

For your concern about panic attacks, there is no such interactions and they are not related. So it is safe and you can take this.

As you have mentioned about chlorpheniramine used to control panic attacks, you are right although it is not used commonly.

Chlorpheniramine is antihistaminics. It blocks the action of histamine at its receptors hence used as anti allergic. Apart form this, this drug has property to act as antidepressant and anti anxiety also as this blocks reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, the main mechanism of SNRI class of drugs used as antidepressant.

Hope this will help you.
If you have any other concerns please feel free to ask.
