Can Panadol And Somac Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Mar 2016
Question: Hey dr,

I just want some advice and tablets that I am taking. I have Somac 40mg in the morning for acid reflux which the dr prescribed for 7 days but what I want to know is it ok to have a pandol and then later on a gaviscon/antacid if I suffer from more indigestion? Is it also ok to drink alcohol if having taken pandol or a gaviscon?

Also is it ok to have Cenovis Vitiam C tablets 500mg as they have Sodium Ascorbate if having Somac or an antacid?

Kind Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
okay but avoiding alcohol is best

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your questions.
It is okay to take panadol (acetaminophen) for pain when you are taking Somac (pantoprazole). It is also okay to take gaviscon/antacid later as well.
The problem with the alcohol is that it makes reflux worse so avoiding it would be best, however there is no specific interaction with the alcohol and your medications.
If you take vitamin C, take it with a full meal because it is acidic and can increase the stomach acid. This will be minimized if you take it with a full meal.
Other things that make reflux worse include mints, coffee and tea, citrus fruits, tomatoes, red meats, high fat content foods, sodas and eating large meals or eating before bedtime.
I wish you the best,
Dr. Robinson
