Can Rabies Vaccination Increase Total Serum Globulin Levels?
1) Can vaccination (specifically rabies vaccine booster without rabies immune globulin) increase total serum globulin levels and/or affect a/g ratio on a comprehensive metabolic panel? For several years my globulin levels hovered around 2.1-2.2 without change, but 7 days after being vaccinated a comprehensive metabolic panel conducted for unrelated reasons showed that globulin level was 3.4. Then 4 months later it was tested again and found to be 3.0. Is this likely to be a coincidence or is rabies vaccine known to increase total globulin level?
2) If hypothetically a person had increased globulin levels due to a condition like multiple myeloma, macroglobulinemia, etc. would it be unlikely for globulin levels to increase and then decrease? i.e., if I had one of these conditions would my increase (3.4) and then decrease (3.0) in globulin levels over a few months make sense, or would the expectation be that they would remain the same or increase further?

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear XXXXXXX
I have gone through your medical history carefully and you can find the answers to your questions as following:
1. Please take note that rabies vaccination is inducing an active immune response that includes the production of virus neutralizing antibodies. The active body immune response will require 7 to 10 days after the shot, wile the antibiodies will persist for several years.
This immune response to the shot explains the slight increase in your globulin level.
2. The changes in the blood immunoglobulines will depend on the stage and type of multiple myeloma after excluding other causes such as infections. If myeloma is set, the level of immunoglobulins will persist high in MM; while fluctuating during infection. However, I insist that other symptoms should be considered too.
Hope it answered to your questions. Let me know if I can be of further help.
