Posted on Tue, 4 Jul 2023
Question: I have a very slight slight burn when urinating sometimes. When I drink a lot of water it seems to get a little better. I am worried about std from unprotected oral sex where I did not ejaculate. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
STD is possible, but it can also be some other ordinary infection

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

There are many possible reasons for the burning sensation and it certainly is possible that you might have an STD. It is definitely a good idea to get tested so it can be treated specifically, if indeed it is an STD. However, there are certainly many other possibilities.

It could be an ordinary urinary tract infection, which can resolve on its own by drinking a lot of fluid, especially cranberry juice. However, if it doesn't get better in a few days, you may need antibiotics.

It can also be simply due to irritation due to some inflammation that could have been caused by trauma from the oral sex. If that is the case, there may not be any infection at all. This will usually improve on its own as your body heals. If it doesn't heal on its own, you will need to see a doctor for an examination of that area.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions.

Brief Answer:
The chances are significant if the partner has an active infection

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The chances of getting an STD are significant if your partner had an active infection. However, it is somewhat less likely than through sexual intercourse.

The reason why drinking fluid helps is because it washes away the bacteria that causes the infection. It is your body's natural way to fight infection.

Hope I have answered your query.
