Can STDs Be Contracted Through Episodes Of Sexual Intercourse?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015
Question: Hi Doctor

I have had sex (used a condom always) with many women in the last 1 year
In some cases I have had experiences of cumming in few women's mouth and also licking their vagina and a lot of deep french kissing.

I am worried if I would have been infected with the virus anytime. I haven't had any major symptoms though, But I have had fever sometime.. isolated diarhhoea etc at a different time.

Need your honest advice on what I should be doing here on to live happily without worrying abt this.

Brief Answer:
Negligible chance of any major sexually transmitted infection in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for sending the details.

After reviewing the complete query let me reassure you that there are negligible chance of any major sexually transmitted infection in your case.

It is based on the fact that you have not had unprotected vaginal sex in any of the incidence. But even then there are two occasions where you breached this barrier with unprotected oral sex with sex workers.

In sex workers the status of any STD is unknown. Though oral sex is one the least common mode of infection but one must be careful in every kind of exposure with sex workers.

I reassure you for the most important Sexually Transmitted Disease i.e. HIV. By protected vaginal sex there are practically negligible chance and by oral sex also there are no chance.

For rest of the STDs too, as there is almost 60 days since the last episode and you do not have any symptoms so can be assumed as free from minor other STDs too. This is because of the fact that most of these minor STDs manifest within one month of time.

The only issue is for Hepatitis B. It is now a days quite common to see this infection. I suggest you to just go for Hepatitis B antibody test. This test can be done any time after 60 days of last exposure.

I also suggest you to be careful in oral sex too as it can also transmit various STDs.

Hope the information provided would relax you. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.

"Wish you good health"

Thank you very much doctor..

You have made me feel much better now. I will make sure I stay protected in the future.

Meanwhile Can you please let me know if there are any specific symptoms that I need to observe in me just to ensure I am still safe (like monitoring my weight, etc.?) (As I saw in the internet that only normal symptoms like fever, throat pain, diarrhoea, muscle ache occur in initial days of infection and later no symptoms occur for 10 years or more)

I know that I have been involved in these sexual activities only in the last 1 year and eventually have had fever sometimes, diarrhoea etc. sometimes in the last 1 year. Is this related to any infection.

Brief Answer:
I reassure you fully that you are free from all major STDs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

I am happy that you are relaxed to know the simple facts regarding your concern.

For any specific symptoms: As it is around 2 months since your last exposure so most of minor and major STDs are almost out of context. For the part of symptoms like fever, throat pain, diarrhoea, muscle ache in initial days of infection and later no symptoms for 10 years is applicable for HIV. In your case as I said in my experience you do not have any possibility of HIV. So just relax for the same.

Even then if you want to conform the same then can go for simple antibody test after one month of period. Abstain form any sexual activity during this one month.

I reassure you fully that you are free from all major STDs and relax totally.

I suggest you to use protection in all forms of exposures to avoid any chance of STDs.

Hope the information provided would relax you. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.
