Can Sizodon And Nexito Be Taken For A Long Duration?

Question: Hello sir, my husband is 31 yrs old. He is taking sizodon 1mg and nexito 1mg since 7-8 yrs. Both medicines are prescribed for life time. What will be the side effects? My question is will this effect our married life and the medicines are prescribed for schizophrenia only?Does schizophrenia leads to genetic disorder?

First of all I like to clarify that schizophrenia is often classified as chronic disorder but no prescription is life time. The treating doctor assesses the condition of patient on routine follow up and changes medication whenever necessary. It will be wrong to say that he is on lifetime prescription.

The dose he is receiving is well in safe limits and do not have major side effects. In case side effects occur you need to report them to his treating doctor so remedial measures can be taken.

Regarding the side effects, as I said above there are no major side effects but if the healthy life style is not followed he may develop obesity, diabetes , hypertension among others.

There is good contribution of genetic factors in development of schizophrenia but it is not a pure genetic disorder.
