Can TIA Be Detected In A MRI Scan?

Question: If one has TIAs can they be seen on MRI? I have had two that I can say I know that it happened to me and when.
Brief Answer:
In some cases yes
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
TIA means that there was transitory ischemic incident and it means that there are no consequences and that symptoms were less than 24 hours of duration. In such cases there is usually no permanent brain damage and no pathologic blood flow in brain. So considering this, detection my imaging tests (MRI and CT) is not easy unless it is done during the TIA. However, MRI angiography may detect some pathologic changes in around 30% of cases and it should be done since it may also detect blood flow disorders in carotid and brain vessels and it will help doctors ti determine risk for further stroke and TIAs. Wish you good health. Regards
