What Are Chances Of Recovery After Coma Due To Brain Oxygen Deprivation?

Hi! My friend, went for an operation to remove infection in her foot due to a cut. Then doctors discovered that she was diabetic. A junior doctor told her that they would have to amputate her foot if her foot didn t heal. She broke down and cried and later, suffered a heart attack and fell into a coma. doctors say there is brain damage due to oxygen deprivation to her brain. What are her chances of survival and chances of waking up/recovery?

Hello,

The chances of survival depend on the degree of the damage and the time of resuscitation. For this reason, it is important a brain MRI and an EEG, coupled with a careful neurological physical exam.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
