Can Tylenol Be Taken Along With Advil For Back Pain?

Question: I strained a muscle(s) in my back on Monday morning. I went to the chiropractor on Monday afternoon and received laser treatment, electrode treatment, plus massage of the affected area (lower left side of my back, into my left buttock). On Tuesday, I called my doctor's office and received a prescription for Tizanidine HCL 2MG capsules, which I have been taking 3 times per day. I am also taking Advil - no more than 7 per day. I thought I was feeling better last night, but today it seems to have regressed and now I have a stiff neck (left side), presumably from sleeping wrong to "save" my back and I just feel general aches all over. I do not have a fever, but I have an off-and-on chills - type feeling. Is it normal to have these symptoms from a back strain? How long should these symptoms last? I should also tell you that I had the flu right after Christmas, which i THOUGHT I had recovered from.. Do you recommend light stretching exercises now? My chiropractor said no exercising until the spasms stop. Also, can I take Tylenol during the between times of Advil? Just wanted to get another opinion. ~ XXXXXXX XXXX
Brief Answer:
Tylenol makes a great addition!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Adding tylenol to the treatment plan allows for better pain control. You can take as much as 1000mg every 6-8hours without exceeding 4times in a day. I will generally recommend slight stretching activity to prevent stiffness when you has a muscle injury. I will say give it a try unless there is another reason why your chiropractor thinks otherwise.
Strained muscles lead to inflammation which can give the feeling of intermittent chills. However, the severity would not be much unless there is significant tissue injury.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
