Brief Answer:
Yes valsartan is a good one
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
We focus on systolic blood pressure and diastolic is not important here. So don't worry about diastolic BP.
Has he undergone 2D-echocardiography? if not, he should get it done once.
Valsartan is effective and should be started on this and please also monitor BP three times a day for a week at least and make a chart. Also have low salt, regular exercises, healthy lifestyle.
Hope this helps you and feel free to get back if you have any questions.

He has done a regular echocardiography which showed minimal stiffness in the heart due to high blood pressure. I have been seeing my doctor for several years because I have a moderate amount of plaque in my right carotid artery in my neck. However, it was my primary care doctor that became concerned about my
high blood pressure.
high blood pressure.
Brief Answer:
It's good to have a normal echo
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,
Yes, blood pressure should be kept under control and should be less than 140/90 mmHg. It's good that your blood pressure has not yet decreased the heart function.
Thickening and stiffness of heart is due to hypertension and not worrisome.
