Brief Answer:
Vinlep is safer.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your child's clinical details.

Vinlep (oxcarbazepine) is safer than valprarin (sodium valproate). Valparin may cause weight gain, shivering of hands (tremors) and hair loss. Vinlep may cause dizziness in the initial few days, otherwise it is fairly safe.

However, both drugs have good efficacy. Valparin is more effective in generalised seizures (where children lose consciousness). On the other hand, vinlep is more effective in partial seizures (where the consciousness of the child is preserved during a seizure episode).

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
