Can Vyvanse Suppress Growth In Children With ADHD?
My son has been taking vyvamse for last 3 years for AD issues, due to seizures.
About familial short stature;
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
The information you provided is limited (exact details like the age of the child, actual height, parents height, the speed of growth during his life etc. are needed to evaluate further)...
Anyway, the fact that bone age is normal is a good news, that means, the probability to be caused by a pathology is low.
Children with familial short stature tend to have short parents. These normal children display normal growth velocity (speed of growth over time).
They enter puberty at a normal time and typically complete growth with a height consistent with that of their parents.
So, if both of the parents are short, the physician didn't find chronic pathologies, it is very probable familial short stature. Of course, a wider history and a more detailed clinical examination performed by an endocrinologist will be needed to confirm it.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

His growth rate has slowed aince he starting vyvanse in the fall of 2015
.
About lowered growth velocity;
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,
First of all he can not be considered short, because he is at the 55 percentile. It should be under the third percentile to be caused short and to do further examinations.
His expected height is 5 feet and 11 inch.
There are studies showing a long term suppression growth in children treated with amphetamines at the ages 7-10 years, but you need to discuss with your physician and do a balance, rather this slight decrease in growth velocity is more important than the good effects of Vyvanse.
Wish him good health.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
About Vyvanse side effects:
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
From the data, you provided he is at the 55th percentile, not 40th. Should be under the third percentile to be problematic.
No one can say for sure that Vyvanse has caused this slight decrease ( from 75th percentile to 55th) of growth velocity ( may be even physiological), but some studies have noticed this decrease in children using it.
If he has benefited from the treatment during these 2 years, he should continue it because it is only a slight decrease.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta
