Brief Answer: Green stools likely due to not getting hindmilk Detailed Answer: Namasthe Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Ms XXXXXXX Presence of green stools in a baby who is exclusively breast feed does not imply infection and Wallamycin is presently not indicated. Contrary to popular belief, green stool does not happen because your baby has caught a cold or is teething. But green stools over a period of time in an exclusively breastfed baby can mean that something is wrong, though not always. A baby who is being exclusively breastfed usually has stools which are bright yellow, sweet-smelling and the consistency of mustard paste. At times the stools may seem grainy and curdled. If you introduce anything else into a baby's diet, like formula or solids, then the stools will change, usually to become more like an adult's (more brown, solid and foul smelling). One possible reason for green stools is that your baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk. The hindmilk provides most of the calories your baby needs, and makes her feel full. If she's only getting the lower-fat foremilk, she'll be hungry again very soon and will need to feed more often. Her body may not be able to cope with the increased amount of lactose (milk sugar) from all the milk she is drinking. If she can't digest the increased amount of lactose properly, there will be more gas and water than usual in her intestines. This will give her cramping pains and runnier, green (often explosive) stools. Your baby could be getting too much foremilk if: She does not latch on properly: You can correct the way your baby feeds by asking the help of a breastfeeding consultant or expert. Also see our visual guide to breastfeeding to know what latching on should look like.( I can provide you ) Remedy: You move her from one breast to the other before she lets go on his own: Make sure that you let your baby feed for as long as she likes. Do not take her off the breast before she lets go on his own. This way you will be sure she is getting as much milk as she needs and plenty of hindmilk as well. Consistently green stools could also be a warning that your baby is sensitive to something she is eating. What she is sensitive to could be in your milk from medication you are on or something you have eaten. If she is sensitive to something in your diet, there are likely to be other symptoms besides green stool such as eczema or a rash. Follow these simple things and you will definitely see the results and normalization of stool clour. Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Brief Answer: Lactare capsule will be helpful Detailed Answer: Namasthe XXXX Iron and Calcium supplements are definitely required in lactating mothers. They will not cause green stools in the baby. Feeding in baby should be on demand. The baby will exactly stop when they have satiety and fullness. Its okay if the baby sleeps after 10 minutes. Try stroking the leg of baby, till it is full and himself removes the nipple out of mouth. No matter how much ever is the quantity of feeds, do not introduce artificial feeds. It will further reduce the milk output from you. If you notice these signs, then your baby should be getting enough milk: 1. Your baby's doctor is satisfied with how much weight your baby has put on since birth. 2. Your baby is feeding at least six to eight times a day and is content after a feed. 3. Breastfeeding feels comfortable and painless. 4. Your breasts feel emptier and softer after feeds. 5. Your baby looks healthy and has firm skin which bounces right back if you pinch it gently. 6. Your baby is passing enough urine. He should have at least six to eight wet nappies every 24 hours, once he's more than five days old. Your baby's urine should be pale and odourless. 7. You can see and hear your baby swallow while he is feeding, and he seems to be latched on properly. 8. Your baby changes rhythm while sucking and pauses during feeds. He should start feeding again when he's ready, and come off your breast spontaneously when he's finished. 9. Your baby's stool is a yellowy-mustard colour by the time he is five days old. If your baby isn't getting enough milk, you'll notice one or more of these signs: 1. Your baby doesn't regain his birth weight and doesn't put on enough weight after the first few days. 2. Your breasts don't feel softer after feeds. 3. Your baby is unsettled after feeds. 4. Your baby wants to feed constantly. 5. Your baby is sleepy or crying most of the time. 6. Your baby has sunken cheeks or makes clicking noises while breastfeeding. This is a sign that your baby is not latched on properly. Get help from your doctor or infant feeding specialist to make sure your technique is right. 7. Your baby is passing urine less than six to eight times in a 24-hour period after he's five days old. 8. His skin becomes more yellow, instead of less, after the first week. 9. Your baby's skin remains wrinkled after the first week. One of the hardest things about settling into breastfeeding is feeling confident that you're giving your baby enough milk. Ensure the following 1. Exclusive breast feeding till 6 months of age 2. Complimentary feeding to satrt after 6 months, continue breastfeeding till 18 months 3. Start feeding from one breast, keep feeding till the baby feeds or there is no milk coming out( In between you can squeeze from nipple and see if there is milk). If the baby has slept, put him to sleep. If not yet satisfied switch him to opposite breast. This will ensure adequate hind milk has gone. 4. Feed before baby cries: Crying is the last sign that baby is hungry. When the baby wakes up, its smacking/licking it lips or putting hand into mouth, its aindication that baby is hungry. Put the baby to feeds. Do not wait untill baby cries. Making the baby cry may hamper good breast feeding practise. I would also suggest the following ways to increase your breast feeding( No matter how much ever you are tempted to give artificial feeds, please do not give it) 1. Capsule Lactare thrice a day 2. Shatavarex powder: spoon in cup of milk thrice a day 3. Ensure good intake of water I will also share one of the home made recipe which is beneficial in promoting lacatation( Tried it on many including my own wife) and it does help Ingredients needed: Ghee( 2 spoons), Whole wheat flour ( 2 spoons) , Pista( 50 gms), Cardomom ( 6 in number), Almonds( 50 gms), Khajur( Dried dates 50 gms), water/milk In a pan pour 2 spoons of ghee, heat it, add 2 spoons of wheat flour (Atta), cook it till golden brown on low flame till its slightly golden in color. Add 2 Cups of water or Milk and keep stirring it continuously making a thin water paste( same like sira consistency). To this add powdered mixture of rest of ingredients grinded in mixer ( pista, almond, khajur, cardomom). Supplement your breakfast with this recipe, and also can be consumed at night especialy when you are hungry at night. The stool colour should gradually normalize over next one week. I hope it helped.
