default
Posted on Thu, 28 Apr 2016
Question: I've been married for about 40 years and have had only had sex with him. About 30 years ago had an abnormal pap and then had cryosurgery. Being young not knowing what an abnormal pap was. So my question being diagnosed with an abnormal pap then having the cryosurgery done did this mean it was from hpv?
I think the paperwork had CIN on it
Also can it be reactivated after many years? And would having sex activate it? Thank you for you time XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to reactivate

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for your query about HPV.

I have read you query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) Cryosurgery for CIN will help in removing the affected part of cervix.

2) This will not cure HPV and there is no question of reactivation by having sex.

3) This HPV will stay in the body and activate only if your immunity goes down.

4) Since cryosurgery was done, it is unlikely to have the reactivation. Dont worry about it.

I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.

Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Let me clarify it for you :

1) You had HPV 30 years back which had lead to CIN for which you needed cryotherapy. Yes HPV was the reason.

2) The present HPV infection can stay dormant and come back to infect you.

I hope your doubts are cleared.

Let me know if you need anymore help.
