Question: My husband had double hernia 5 days ago. Still will not, stomach hurts, on pain medication and urinates frequently. He is 74 years old. Is this normal?

There is always a link between hernia and urinary tract infection.Most likely you are having Urinary tract infection.
UTI is usually caused by bacterial infection and may cause abdominal pain with increased frequency and urgency.
A urine routine and microscopic test along with stool microscopic examination should be done to rule out the cause of infection.
Chances of bilateral hernia increases the probability of urinary tract infection hence initially these two basis investigations should be done to rule out whether pain is urinary or gastric in origin.

Therapy with antibiotics and anti inflammatory would be started as per the results of tests.
Usually nitrofurantoin 100mg once daily is used to treat UTI.
