Can A Prostatectomy Be Done For A 74 Year Old With Prostate Cancer?
Question: I had cancer radiation treatment done on my prostate gland. I need to wear a Supra pubic catheter.
There is no more sign of cancer, however I experience pain in this area since ever I received radiation.
I am taking Cabapentin and Tramadol since 3 years now, but I do not think it helps.
My Urologist suggest surgery to remove prostate and bladder.
I am worried about such a surgery ( l am 74 years old). I could use some opinions regarding this procedure.

Brief Answer:
Your age is not the problem.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Your age is not a problem. Your general condition is the key. If your heart is fine, you are not obese, do not have diabetes or hypertension, most likely you will go through the whole process without any problems at all.
Prostate is localized extraperitoneal (outside the abdomen) and so it the bladder. So it is possible to remove it without causing much issues inside the abdomen. It is quite common procedure. Some can perform it with laparoscopy which is less invasive and allows speedy recovery.
If you need more information, please feel free to ask.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
