Can Alcohol Abuse Cause Neurologic Symptoms?
Question: When I was 25, I consumed about 5 drinks per night for about 90 days (I weigh about 95 lbs, so that might have been equivalent to 10 drinks for an average male.) I consumed these during a period of about 2 hours nightly, and did not stay well-hydrated. Afterward, I felt that my intelligence had been reduced. Is that belief objectively likely? And is it likely that my overall pattern of alcohol use in the past 7 years (see my medical history) has affected my intelligence permanently?
Brief Answer:
Don't worry
Detailed Answer:
Dear
I am sorry for the symptoms you are suffering
It is true that alcohol abuse can cause neurologic symptoms and those can be permanent if we are talking about long abuse and irreversible cerebral changes are caused.
Anyway in your case I don't think you have to worry to much because you will be fine after some time.
It is recommended that you start vitaminotherapy and schedule a brain MRI.
If no brain changes are seen you can be sure that you will be fine.
Avoid alcohol drinks, start vitaminotherapy (especially thiamine)
Hope my answer helps you
