If by getting too old to be effective, you mean does the medication have an expiration date, yes, it does.
All medications have expiration dates which are usually either printed on the box or packaging. Most meds last for 1 to 2 years at least.

The date is not exact and some medications can be used shortly after this date.

If you mean does it stop working in someone who was using it with no problem before, then not usually.
If this is a problem, then may need to increase the dose if this is an option allowed by your doctor or try an alternative medication (eg cialis or levitra)

Some persons respond to an alternative better.
