Can Anti Rabies Vaccination Be Given A Week After Exposure?
Dog Bite-rabies vaccine
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
If the dog is a pet dog ,observe the dog for 10 days.
If your daughter has been bitten by the dog ,give two doses of purified inactivated rabies vaccine ( e.g inj Rabipur 1 ml i.m. deltoid area ) on days 0 (1st dose) & 3.
If the dog dies/escapes within 10 days from the date of bite ,complete the course i.e additional doses should be given on days 7 &14; a fifth dose on day 28 is no longer recommended.
Ideally, the first dose should be given as soon as possible after exposure; failing that, it should be given without further delay as in your daughter's case.
If the dog is a stray dog the dosage schedule is 0 (1st dose),3 , 7 & 14 days.

Minute scratch/es on legs ?Dog bite ? Mosquito bite
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Mosquito bite does not produce any scratch and it causes itching for sometime.
The itchy bumps caused by mosquito bite is unlikely to persist beyond days.
However the treating physician is the correct person to assess the nature of breach in the skin and take an appropriate decision regarding vaccination.

Rabies vaccine
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
If you have given purified inactivated rabies vaccine on days 0 (1st dose),3,7 & 14 and the dog is still alive, you can omit day 28th dose(booster dose).
Local reactions (pain, erythema, edema, and pruritus) and mild systemic reactions (fever, myalgias, headache, and nausea) are common; anti-inflammatory and antipyretic medications may be used, but immunization should not be discontinued.
One can develop serum-sickness–like reactions with intradermal booster doses.
Purified inactivated rabies vaccines (e.g. verorab, rabipur) otherwise are highly immunogenic and remarkably safe compared with earlier vaccines.
