Can Anxiety Cause Persistent Chest Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Oct 2015
Question: Went to hospital twice for chest and left arm pain. Went to heart doctor last year because my anxiety was taking over my life but my primary doctor thought it was heart related, the heart doctor did many ekg, echocardiogram, and holter monitor for a month. He said my heart was fine. I constantly get chest pain near my heart and down my left arm I'm 22 and have horrible anxiety. Can anxiety cause these horrible pains or can it actually be something.

Brief Answer:
3 possibilities

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible cardiac lesion. I have read the tests have been normal. but the confirmation is only by a coronary angiography. You may request that.

Yes anxiety can cause the symptoms. Anti anxiety medicine should help you.

A possible cause I'd also severe gastritis. It's commonly caused by anxiety. And can present with same features.
Take a trial of Pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day. If it helps the symptoms may be gastritis related.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal

I also had a stress test done that came back fine. The pain is come and go but when I feel the chest pain my anxiety goes through the roof. Do you believe it's more anxiety related
And every time I've been the the doctor my blood pressure was perfect and heart rate was around 70

as I said before angiography is the only perfect way to rule out a cardiac condition .
