Can Blood Pressure Medication Be Taken Before Pheochromocytoma?
Question: I am having an adrenal gland removed on Tuesday I have been given pressure peels to XXXXXXX my blood pressure. My pressure reading tonight is 117/58 we are resting pulse of 110. Am I OK and should I take the medicine on tonight.
Brief Answer:
why not?
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can't understand the reason you have doubts about taking your treatment. Your blood pressure is not very high but the drugs are supposed to keep it there (or preferably a little higher than that). Besides that if you're going to remove a pheochromocytoma the drugs (particularly the alpha-blockers) are essential as pre-operative preparation. For disorders other than pheochromocytoma the drugs only target blood pressure control (so they can be left in the box if the blood pressure is too low). In your case, the blood pressure is not ideal but it is acceptable, therefore I don't see the reason to withhold treatment at this point.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!

Doxazosin would be absolutely necessary for pheochromocytoma. Metoprolol would be very useful too. Doxazosin is an alpha-blocker and metoprolol a beta-blocker.
