Can Changing The Brand Of Birth Control Pills Cause Slight Hormonal Imbalance?
Question: My pharmacy switched me from Gianvi birth control to Loryna birth control, both of which are the generic equivalents of Yaz birth control. I was originally prescribed Yaz to help with my cystic acne, and it worked very well to control it. I was switched to Gianvi by my pharmacy about two years ago, and it has worked as well. However, I am concerned about the switch to Loryna. I found a lot of information online I found that says that women who switch from Gianvi to Loryna experience a serious increase in acne, as well as mood changes. Is there something about Loryna that would be different and make my acne come back? I am very worried because I already have some acne scars from my cystic acne.
Brief Answer:
it is better not to change brand
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
It is true that changing the brand of birth control pills can cause slight hormonal imbalance and a transient flare of acne.
However this remains for a short time and body adapts to it.
I suggest you to ask your pharmacist to continue with same brand if possible. Even if he changes there is nothing to worry. The side effects won't last longer.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Gianvi and Loryna apparently have the same active ingredients, but different imactive ingredients. I had no changes switching from Yaz to Gianvi. Do you think switching from Gianvi to Loryna will still cause side effects like a transiet flare up of acne? Can yoi tell me if there are any different ingredients or dosage percentage changesthat would cause these changes?
Brief Answer:
you can change over
Detailed Answer:
Hello
The active ingredient always remains same.
It is the inactive ingredient which causes side effects.
It cannot be said with certainity who will develop these side effects.
You don't need to worry much as once you have successfully changed over.
Even this time there should not be any problem in changing over.
Just go ahead with it.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
