My husband is 80 years old and has been diagnosed with congenial heart dease. His heart is only pumping half the speed of a normal heart beat. And now his lungs are filling with fluid. He also has Alzheimer's.

Does he have shortness of breath or leg swelling?
In such case an optimization of his therapy and adding a diuretic may be needed.
In such case, salt and water restrictions his diet is also necessary.
Of course the fact that he suffers from Alzheimer makes things more difficult, because of his low medical compliance.
