How Long Does It Take For Stevia To Completely Clear Out Off The System?

I am 32 and in great shape. I ingested a natural artificial sweetener called stevia and bc it is from the ragweed family I had a huge reaction to it. It lowers blood presseure, blood sugar, and is a vasodialtor. I have been taking it for months and after 2 days of being away from it I feel better, but Im still having bouts of rapid heart beats. I have gone to the ER and they 17 tests along with an EKG and said everything is fine. Do I have to give this stuff adequate time to leave my system or are heart palpitations supposed to go away over night?

Hi,

Stevia is a natural sweetener. It is produced from the Stevia rebaudiana plant leaves. It is generally considered safe for consumption and has been approved by regulatory agencies such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). However, some people may experience adverse reactions to stevia, particularly if they are allergic to the ragweed family. Symptoms of a stevia allergy can include hives, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing, and rapid heartbeat.

In general, it takes about 24-48 hours for a substance like a stevia to clear out of your system. However, if you have been taking stevia for months, it may take longer for your body to fully eliminate it. It is also possible that the rapid heartbeat you are experiencing is due to other factors, such as stress, anxiety, or an underlying medical condition.

If you have already been evaluated by a healthcare provider and they have determined that no underlying health issues are contributing to your symptoms, it may be helpful to continue to avoid stevia and monitor your symptoms over time. You may also want to consider talking to a nutritionist or dietitian about alternative sweeteners that are safe for you to consume.

It is important to note that if you experience severe or persistent symptoms, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or fainting, you should seek medical attention immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
