Question: Can trauma lead to bursitis in the hips, trauma from serious military training from years ago that is aggravated
by on going activities.

Yes this is possible..continued trauma and friction to bursae and joints in the hips during the training can well lead to bursitis by causing inflammation to bursae present in the hip.

They can be treated with:
1) Rest.
2) Brufen 400mg twice a day.
3) Phsyiotherapy.
4) Orthopedic checkup.
5) A steroid injection to inflammed joint or bursa which will supress inflammation.

I would suggest you not to panic this may take some time to recover but consult the appropritate doctor and start medication.(I am supposing that you asked the question for yourself.)
