Can Expired Cephlaxin Be Taken For Treatment Of Fever?

Question: Hi, I have been having bacterial flu type symptoms for the last 3-4 days with low grade fever, chills, weakness, and throat discomfort...I have been controlling fever with Tylenol Flu/Cold 500mg tablets (2) every 6-8 hours...however it is persisting...I have an old anti-biotic Cephlaxin 500mg capsules which has expiration of Dec 21, 2010. I am wondering if I can take these Cephlaxin capsules or visit my primary care for a presceription?
Brief Answer:
Do not take expired tablet
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Please do not use the old cephalexin tablet because it would have lost its potency and also studies have shown that taking expired drugs is often associated with cancer.
I strongly suggest you to visit your primary care physician for a clinical exam and prescription
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards
