Can Exposure To Laminated Floor Cause Urinary Tract Cancer?

default
Posted on Tue, 31 May 2016
Question: I have trace of blood in Urine with Dipstick but normal RBC is 0-2 per HPF and WBC from December 2015 under microscope. Negative results on Renal and bladder Ultrasound and Cytology test. Blood tests came back normal. Urologist said nothing need to be done except repeating tests for every 3 months for next 2 years. My only concern is I installed laminate by myself back in November 2015. I just read the news that Laminate flooring causes lot of issues which has high in formaldehyde. Is this something that laminate caused?

Brief Answer:
chronic exposure to coloring agents, may cause urinary tract cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can fully understand your concern.

You must be worried about chemical pigments, causing urinary tract cancer.
Well, in your case, the chances are very remote.

That's seen in a very small percentage of people, working in pigment factories.
By installing laminate flooring once, it's difficult it, to attribute trace blood in urine.
Such people with exposure to pigments, come with total bleeding in urine.
You had only one episode of trace blood, with all reports being normal.

Hope your anxiety is over.

Thank you for the answer. The trace of blood has been there in the dipstick urine analysis from december 2015 and is still going on. Urologist couldn't find the cause after the diagnostic test but he said Microscopic hematuria is more than 3 RBC/hpf that should raise concern for more tests like CAT scans (In my case 0-2 rbc/hpf under microscope). My question remained unaswered by my urologist why the dipstick still shows trace of blood. And exposure to formaldehyde would cause the dipstick to show traces of blood? How do I get rid of toxins from my urine. I started drinking lots of water.

Brief Answer:
0-2 RBC's/hpf isn't considered significant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

You should be drinking 10-12 glasses fluids daily.
Drinking lots of water, isn't protecting the kidney or removing toxins.

0-2 RBC's/hpf, is reported as normal in most labs, as it's not significant.
However, you may repeat the test in another lab, without showing previous report.
Most Urologists would not advise further investigations, unless the level is higher.

Hope your doubts are cleared.
Wish you well.
