Can Group Of Lesions On Corpus Callosum Cause Multiple Sclerosis?
I had a very attentive Dr. who immediately sent me for a CT scan and I believe some bloodwork. After my CT scan I needed a MRI because they saw an artifact on the CT that they weren't sure was just movement or pituitary tumor.
The MRI was booked, I did it, and then waited to see my neurologist. This was when I became confused. My neurologist said that he needed to order yet another MRI because in the last findings there were multiple hyper-intensities/lesions. He also explained me that hyper-intensities are common in people with migraine. However, he then told me the primary reason we were ordering yet another MRI, was because I have a group of lesions on my corpus callosum which is usually indicative of multiple sclerosis.
I do experience a lot of the classic symptoms of MS however I know that many other conditions can mimic the symptoms. So my question is how indicative are lesions on the corpus callosum of MS?
I just feel helpless because more
and more symptoms pop up every few month, but I'm at the mercy of waiting 6 months between appointments to get any information. My neuro doesn't go very in-depth with his answers :(
Thank you!
Involvement of corpus callosum may be due to MS.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I have thoroughly gone through your reports in detail.
Yes,your doctor has rightly said that corpus callosum hyperintensities may be due to multiple sclerosis(MS).MS also involves other region of brain like U-fibers,temporal lobes, brainstem, cerebellum and spinal cord. These lesions enhance after contrast administration.
However, involvement of corpus callosum is not confirmatory.MS should be confirmed by considering other factors like clinical findings,C.S.F findings etc.
You also need follow up scan to see progression of lesions.
In MRI(Brain),FLAIR or T2 weighted tiny hyper intensities are also due to other reasons like ischemic changes(decreased blood supply) that involves small blood vessels, migraine, post traumatic, post infective sequel etc.Diabetes mellitus and vitamin B12 deficiency also aggravates the situation.
You need routine investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile, vitamin B12 estimation, ultrasound of abdomen.
You need follow up MRI (Brain)scan to see the progression of lesions.Demyelinating disorders are associated with many other neurological findings. You need clinical correlation.
Get well soon.
Hope i have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
