What Causes Muscle Spasms In Legs And Arms While Moving The Neck?

I have been diagnosed with myelopathy from a spinal cord compression at c5 c6 i had surgery to decompress the spinal cord. My question is whenever I move my neck to do certain tasks and also when I lay flat for sleeping I have more symptoms such as more muscle spasms in legs and arms, increased weakness and pain in hands etc Is it possible that my spinal cord gets imflammed from the movement of my neck causing and increase in my symptoms?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The muscle spasms can happen due to a nerve root compression, spondylotic changes in the neck, fluid and electrolyte disturbances, inflammation and swelling around the spinal cord after the surgery, etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Praveen Tayal, Orthopedic Surgeon
