Posted on Tue, 27 May 2014
Question: Hi, I accidentally dropped my cell phone in the toilet at work. I work in an old building with lots of people. I was embarrassed and instead of calling for help, I reached in the toilet for it. I am scared I may have contracted hepatitis. Can you get sick, mono or hepatitis from doing this?

I'm very scared.

Thanks! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

There is no need to worry about the risk of acquiring hepatitis or mono.
I presume that you washed your hands well and also wiped the cell phone properly.

To get infective hepatitis, the organism should have access to your gastrointestinal tract.
Mononucleosis is usually spread through saliva and is acquired by close contact with an infected person. So you do not have the risk of acquiring it from what you did.

The risk of acquiring other infections is also low as it is unlikely they would have entered your gastrointestinal tract through your mouth.

I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K
