Can Hot Oil Damage The Ear Canal?
Question: My daughter has a cold that was giving her pain in the ear. I tried to sooth this with warm oil but heated it to much and she squealed as it was going in. She immediately put her ear down to let gravity take the oil oit but im worried her ear drum may be damaged.
Brief Answer:
an ENT should see her right away...
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
too hot oil might have caused thermal injury to the ear canal and perhaps also to the tympanic membrane. If - before the incident - the pain in her ear was constant and persistent then an acute medial otitis is also possible. Thus an ENT specialist should have a look at her ear immediately.
Treating such thermal injuries can be challenging. I hope it's not that serious!
Best wishes for her health!
