Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014
Question: 6 weeks ago I was sexually active with 2 street workers. I am a male 22 years old. they just gave me oral sex. I didn't touch them and did not kiss them. i was giving a std check a month ago and every thing was negative. i was worried about hiv? the past 3 days i have had an upset stoumch and diharra. i have read on many doctors sites that there has never been a case of someone getting hiv from receiving oral sex even if the partner was hiv positive. should i be worried? or am i just thinking to much? should i go get checked again? what is your opinion

Brief Answer: Go get checked but probably you did not get HIV! Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about what happened. i am pretty sure you would not want to be part of this frightening trend of events in future again. Always endeavor to get enough protection during intercourse. It is very difficult to get HIV through oral sex alone but, it is not impossible to also get it. Your symptoms are in no way suggestive of an HIV infection right now. It is just too early to start having symptoms that could be related to this. Getting tested would put your mind at ease but, am pretty confident there would be nothing more to this. Do it for the assurance and reassurance. I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well and feel free to ask for clarification or more information if need be. Thanks for using our services. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Brief Answer: No Detailed Answer: It really makes no difference. The truth is that this is a very uncommon but possible route for HIV transmission. Be careful next time but know that there is a residual small risk that cannot be totally ignored. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (6 hours later)
Brief Answer: Too early to use Oraquick now Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this follow up. Oraquick tests require at least 3months for antibodies against HIV to b produced before they can be reliable. At this stage, you need a a test that detects the presence of the virus itself and not the antibody. This can only be done in a medical laboratory. I hope this helps. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
