Can I Have Risperidone Along With Doxazone?
Question: I am 82 years old. recently prescribed Risperidone 0.25mg . for halucinations at night.
I take doxazone 4mg every night which causes some dizzyness when I get out of bed.
will Risperidone increase dizzyness ? I also take 3 meds for high blood pressure.
Prescription info advises caution. I also have diabetes. I haven't taken Risperidone yet

Looking at the clinical details and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Orthostatic hypotension or blood pressure variation with position leading to dizziness is common in both doxazone and risperidone.
2. Additionally Risperidone can enhance the effect of anti-hypertensives.
3. However, if hallucination symptoms are present, you need to take medications. If you do not have as you have mentioned, not to worry for now.
Also, as you have not started Risperidone, you can wait and watch. If symptoms of hallucination starts, then you need to discuss with your doctor regarding careful titration of dose of anti-hypertensives and doxazone, so that excessive hypotension does not occur.
Do not start Risperidone without a second consultation and drug adjustment as severe hypotension is more dangerous than hypertension.
4. Postural hypotension is common at this age and it is getting exacerbated with doxazone. Make sure your movements are slow as any fall could be dangerous at this age.

I talked to my doctor about taking Risperidone. He suggested that I take
the tablets for about a week. The dose is only a quarter of a millagram.
If after a week I feel OK to continue taking Risperidone.
