Posted on Wed, 22 Apr 2015
Question: Believe I have a bladder infection..strong burning sensation, very frequent urination. Had to put on adult diaper last night. Have a prescription(fairly new) for Cephalexin, 500 mg, which vet gave to my dog in August. Vet gave me approximately fourteen extra days of this antibiotic(taking two capsules per day). Can I take this capsules myself?

Brief Answer:
Cephalexine can be used in urinary tract infection treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Cephalexine is quite safe antibiotic which can be used for urinary tract infection treatment. So if you decide to take it, most likely it will help. It should be taken twice a day for approximately 5-7 days.
However it is much better to consult your doctor in this matter. Otherwise you take it at your own risk.
Urine analysis would be a good idea before taking it.
You should also increase mineral water intake and start cranberries supplementation. This should help with the infection as well.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
